Our beginnings
In December of 1979, Baldwinsville band teacher Phillip Sterling founded the Baldwinsville Community Band to give adult instrumental musicians a group with which to perform. The band performs classical and modern music, marches, medleys, seasonal music and show tunes. Funding for the band is by voluntary dues and donations. The band has 501(c)(3) tax status and donations are tax deductible.
Rehearsals have traditionally been held on Wednesday evenings at one of the Baldwinsville schools. In June of 2021, rehearsals were moved to Grace Episcopal Church in Baldwinsville.
Membership: Band membership is open to any musician of high school age or older. The current membership is about 50 players, ranging in age from 20 to 80+, and includes 7 founding members. In addition to Baldwinsville residents, members come from all over Central New York.
Members receive a schedule of concert dates and a music folder for home practice and for performances. Members must bring their own stand. Concert dress is our red band shirt (or your own red or white), black pants or skirt/dress, provided by the individual members.
Performances: The band plays summer concerts at local churches, a Veterans’ Day concert at the CNY Vets Expo, and Christmas programs. In addition the band participates in several programs; Baldwinsville Memorial Day ceremony, Elks Club Flag Day, meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus after the Christmas Parade. The band does not charge for performances, but will accept donations to defray costs (please visit our Support page).
If you are interested in having the band perform, you will be asked to supply:

-staging area at least 30’ wide and 20’ deep
